A native plant is one that is indigenous to North America and will grow well in Central Indiana. Varieties of native perennials, shrubs, or trees have been bred to feature different colors, mature sizes, flowering or growth habits, or other desirable traits. Varieties of native plants are also known as 'nativars' to distinguish them from varieties of non-native plants.
